Kenya is seeking support from Egypt to strengthen maternal, child and surgical care at Nyatike Sub-County Hospital in Migori County, the Ministry of Health said in a statement published on October 6.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga discussed the proposed investment with Egypt’s Ambassador to Kenya, Hatem Yousri Hosni, during a meeting in Nairobi on September 29.
Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and Nyatike MP Tom Odege also attended the meeting.
The Ministry said the discussions focused on investment in Nyatike Sub-County Hospital, where maternal, child and surgical services require significant investment.
The proposals were submitted to the Egyptian government in May through the Kenya Mission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The focus on maternal and child care comes as Migori continues to prioritise access to these services and improvements in health-facility infrastructure.
In June, the county government said it had distributed 131 beds and mattresses to level two and three facilities to strengthen maternal and newborn care.
It also reported 150 consecutive days without a maternal death as of June 22, following interventions that included identifying high-risk pregnant women and encouraging regular antenatal care.
The proposed investment would therefore target a hospital that could provide more advanced maternal, child and surgical services to residents in Nyatike and surrounding areas, although the Ministry has not disclosed the amount of funding being sought or specific projects to be financed.
